Two functions, one practitioner
Practice Assessor and Senior Practitioner
Practice Assessor
The assessment function, including reviewing evidence and assessing current practice against the relevant requirements.
Senior Practitioner
The professional development and support function, including PDP work, reflection, feedback and ongoing development.
At BSL Interpretations, your Practice Assessor and Senior Practitioner are the same person, so assessment, PDP work and ongoing support stay connected throughout the process, allowing for more tailored and consistent support.
The process
Support from registration onwards
Route into endorsement
- Free introductory meeting
Discuss the trainee's needs, current stage of training and how the process works.
- Initial Practice Assessment set
The trainee is given the initial assessment tasks and evidence requirements.
- First Senior Practitioner meeting and assessment feedback
The Practice Assessment is reviewed and detailed feedback is discussed during the first paid session.
- Initial PDP and Regulated Trainee registration
If the trainee is working at the required standard, the initial PDP is completed and they proceed with Regulated Trainee registration with NRCPD.
Ongoing annual development cycle
- Monthly development meetings
Ongoing Senior Practitioner sessions focus on current development needs, practical skills, theoretical understanding and professional practice.
- Every 3 months: PDP review
The PDP is formally reviewed and updated approximately every three months.
- 11 months: Annual Practice Assessment
The annual Practice Assessment is completed in preparation for re-registration.
- 12 months: NRCPD re-registration
The trainee completes their annual re-registration with NRCPD and the cycle continues if they remain a Regulated Trainee.
The cycle continues while you remain a Regulated Trainee.
With BSL Interpretations, your Practice Assessor and Senior Practitioner are the same person, so assessment, PDP work and ongoing support remain connected throughout the process.
What happens in a session
Up to 90 minutes focused on your development
Sessions are shaped around your current development needs, improving both theoretical understanding and practical skills while also offering support with the work you are currently doing on your course. Together we can review interpreting or translation samples, identify development areas and use practical skills work to explore what could change.
You receive clear feedback, reflective discussion and support with professional decision-making. We can work on your PDP, address difficulties with course work or training, and add focused teaching where a topic or skill needs more attention. Appropriate contact between sessions helps you keep moving.

Included while we work together
Learning Hub access
Access includes hundreds of hours of professional learning activities available at no extra cost while support is active.
Qualified professionals can use these activities as unstructured CPD. Regulated Trainees can use the same materials to support their development between meetings, although they do not need CPD points in the same way.
